The simple fact is that Chiropractic Treatment is completely safe. Indeed the most recent research shows that visiting a Chiropractor is as safe as visiting your GP, and that manual treatment carries far less risk than anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen or aspirin. For this reason, Chiropractic treatment is today recommended in the Departments of Health's 'Musculoskeletal Services Framework'.
After initial treatment patients often report an instant improvement in their range of motion, (ability to move more freely). Because this extra joint movement brings into play muscles and tissues that have been underused whilst the joints have been restricted, this can sometimes be followed by feeling uncomfortable and achey over the following day or so. You will be given 'homework', an individually tailored regime of stretches, movement and advice that you can do at home to combat any reaction like this, and to maximize the lasting effects of treatment.
Any form of healthcare is to a degree a learning curve with the individual patients body directing what can and can't be achieved, and at what speed. Our Chiropractors use their considerable experience and skill to tailor the most appropriate forms of treatment for every individual, and will then adapt and develop that treatment to get you better as quickly and effectively as possible. It is not uncommon therefore for symptoms to change and move during and after treatment. Very occasionally patients report feeling tired or even sometimes dizzy after treatment, and it is true to say than in a small number of cases, symptoms can be mildly irritated before getting better.
At The Chiropractic Clinic, we offer a 24 hour patient help line, for help and advice at any time.
